Garage door maintenance

These are some things you should do twice a year or so to keep your garage door well maintained. This is the BIGGEST movong part in your home!!!! Just like a car with all its movong parts, your garage door is no different. this list is not meant to be all inclusive and it soesnt guarantee your door will never need to be serviced.

1.Give all rollers, hinges, roller tracks, hinges, and latches a good squirt with a silcone based lubricant. Lubricate the pulleys on extension-spring openers and the bearings on torsion-spring openers. Spray your springs while the door is open, then spray them again while it is closed to insure sufficient coverage.

2.Garage door maintenance is often needed on the door opener. If your garage door opener is operated by a chain or drive screw, apply the same lubricant to the full length.

5.Check any weatherstripping along the sides of the doors. Adjust if it is jamming against the sides, and replace if necessary. Your local door dealer should have this in stock.

6.If your garage door is wood and it doesn't have bottom weatherstripping, make sure it has been sealed or painted. Touch up as needed, and consider adding weatherstripping. You can also find this at your local garage door dealer.

Make garage door maintenance an bi-annual project (spring & fall are good times).
